Outreach Support: Respite support

Problem / Referral Request:
Local authority requested 15 hours of support over 3 sessions per week to take the YP out of the family home provided to 12 year old girl who was presenting with extremely challenging behaviours within the family home. YP would consistently target mother and 3 siblings with physical abuse and was classed as a danger to these.

Solution:
Respite support was provided where the YP was taken out of the family environment where she engaged in positive meaningful activity including educational activities and volunteering work. The family were given breathing space from the constant conflict when the sessions took place.

Results:
The YP’s behaviours transformed to the extent whereby the mother claimed to have a new child as her behaviours had changed that much. The YP was no longer causing conflict within the household and was being a loving sister and helpful daughter.
